John and Mary Rudolph Nature Area

Russell’s Point Ohio

This open space is 52.3 acres of donated agricultural cropland and pasture located adjacent to the Great Miami River. The open space will facilitate the creation of a wetland and prairie site providing additional stormwater infiltration and storage, wildlife environments and open space access for community residents. In addition to the creation of more than 8 acres of emergent wetland and 20 acres of prairie, the project provides 1.2 miles of trail for access, educational interpretations and study and observation of the enhanced riparian environment. Nearly 1 mile of the Great Miami River is contained within the dedicated open space, protecting the streamside vegetation and stabilizing native plant communities which are being protected and expanded. Non-native invasive species are being controlled to the extent practicable in the establishment of the open space
